ABOUT ERIC MAZIE

I established, and for more than thirty years was the leader of, Richards, Layton & Finger\'s Corporate Trust & Agency Services Group. Prior to winding down my practice, I focused on representing issuers, investors, trustees and other participants in a wide variety of transactional matters, with particular emphasis on transactions involving the use of common law and statutory trusts.During my forty years of practice I represented banks and trust companies acting as indenture trustee, owner trustee, fiscal agent, collateral agent, custodian and in other representative capacities in commercial transactions. I also acted as Delaware counsel in connection with the formation and operation of mutual funds, closed-end funds, exchange-traded funds and real estate investment trusts.I was the chairman of the Statutory Trust Committee of the Delaware State Bar Association, and the primary draftsman of the Delaware Statutory Trust Act, since its inception in 1988 until becoming an emeritus member in 2021. I played a pivotal role in the development of statutory trust law and the creation of numerous transactional structures or techniques that are widely used in the public and private capital markets. I have written numerous texts and articles on the use of trusts and the role of trustees in commercial transactions.
