About Eric Koons
When I was 23 I left my job in the environmental consulting industry. I loved my job as a project manager, but I wanted to experience living and working abroad. I moved to Thailand with the intention of staying for 6 months and ended up staying for 3 years. I fell in love with the constant new adventures, culture, and people. Living in a foreign country comes with many challenges and has taught me a lot about adapting and constantly pushing my comfort zone. While in Thailand I worked as a high school science teacher and after 6 months was promoted to head of the science department. I used this time to hone the skills I gained as a project manager by leading a team of teachers from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. The constant challenges of working in a new environment taught me how to deal with and overcome challenges in a tactful and respectful way. This experience helped me develop into a self-confident person and leader. I have translated the skills I learned while working in Thailand and in environmental consulting into working as a freelance environmental professional specializing in technical writing. The management skills I gained allow me to confidently interface with clients, build client relationships, and market my business.
