ABOUT ERIC J. HENDERSON

With over 15 years of experience at the intersection of advanced materials chemistry, nanotechnology, and quantum materials, I bring a unique blend of scientific depth, strategic leadership, and cross-sector impact. I hold a Ph.D. and post-doctoral training in materials chemistry, and have led high-performing teams and complex research programs across academia, government, and the private sector.I currently serve as Deputy Director of the Quantum Internetworking (QUIN) Challenge Program at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). In this capacity, I support the strategic planning and coordination of national research initiatives that advance quantum networking and communication technologies. The QUIN program’s objectives include developing the materials, components, devices and systems to enable quantum networking and the distribution of quantum information over any length scale. Previously I was Manager of the Conservation Science Division at the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI), where I led a multidisciplinary team advancing research, analysis, and innovation in cultural heritage science. I’ve also held Acting Senior Director roles, overseeing entire scientific programs and aligning them with national research priorities. In 2023, I was honoured with the PCH Deputy Ministers’ People Management Award, recognizing my commitment to team development, strategic clarity, and organizational excellence.I have contributed to Canada\'s innovation landscape through leadership in a photonics start-up (Opalux Inc.), and as a senior consultant in materials technology scouting and commercialization. My experience spans R&D strategy, innovation policy, collaborative partnerships, and international engagement.I am a results-driven, bilingual (English/French) science leader with a strong track record in- Building and managing high-impact, cross-functional teams- Driving technology development from lab to market- Aligning science programs with strategic and operational goals- Cultivating collaborative relationships across sectors and bordersI’m passionate about harnessing science and innovation to solve real-world challenges, fostering sustainable technology, and advancing public good.
