ABOUT ERIC MANN
I’m the Director of Public Information at the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), where I lead strategic communications, media relations, and branding efforts for one of the nation’s most respected higher education accreditors. Before joining SACSCOC, I spent nearly a decade at the United States Sports University, working my way up from communications assistant to director and eventually department dean. During that time, I helped lead a university-wide rebrand and website rebuild, launched a quarterly alumni magazine, built strong media partnerships, and managed public relations and events for the university’s on-campus sports art museum. I enjoyed the hands-on work and learned to appreciate the value of higher education there. I started my career in journalism at newspaper publisher Gulf Coast Media as a writer and editor before moving to Lagniappe in Mobile, Alabama, where I worked as an investigative reporter covering larger, more complex issues across the region. That experience still shapes how I approach communications: ask thoughtful questions, respect the audience, and remember why the story matters.I hold a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications and film from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in sports management from the United States Sports University.I care about meaningful work, clear communication, and writing that strengthens the bond between institutions, students, and their communities.
