About Eric Bier

Eric Bier is interested in technologies that combine sensors, smart phones, networked devices, and augmented reality to support applications in building energy management and cyber physical systems. He is leading a project in sensor deployment for building energy savings. His recent projects are related to user interfaces for building energy management, applications of IoT devices for building modeling, technologies for improving the security of networked systems, printing applications for smart phones, and fraud detection in medicine. Eric is also known for his work on user interface software such as Toolglass and Magic Lenses, techniques for sharing computers among multiple users and entity-based notebooks (Entity Workspace). Eric holds 41 patents in areas ranging from computer graphics and graphical devices to novel user interfaces. He has two daughters and enjoys working with children and youth; he often finds himself as a teacher, drama coach, mentor, story teller, and home IT department.Specialties: Novel user interfaces, wireless devices, sensors, analytics, workflow automation, cyber physical systems, personal comfort devices.
