Serve as the counseling contact for general counseling, outreach services, and the First Year Experience program, which will help matriculate students to the campus community efficiently. • Collaborate and coordinate with campus resources to provide cultural activities, field trips, and refer students to existing resources that focus on building motivation, self-esteem, and academic success.• Teach Counseling courses and/or facilitate workshops related to educational and career planning, study skills, and other topics supportive of student success.• Use current technology to assist students in exploring careers, in developing an understanding of the employment environment, and in making and implementing career decisions.• Prepare and maintain counseling records, relaying pertinent information to college personnel as needed, and respecting the confidentiality of such records as required by law.• Develop knowledge and maintain collaborative working relationships with instructional areas, outreach centers, feeder high school, neighboring colleges, and community resource agencies.• Provide counseling for issues impacting persistence and academic success (i.e. academic probation and academic dismissal) and referring students to resources as appropriate and necessary.• Provide counseling services to students attending the college through distance education programs.• Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
