ABOUT ERICA FREDRICKSON
I was a sprinter from birth. I liked getting from point A to point B quickly. However, as I grew older, I realized the value of long distance running – the endurance it took to run 9 miles and not give up. I am the determined person who will keep going even if my legs feel like they will fall off. My mindset for running is similar to my mindset for learning. I love the instant gratification of learning something quickly, but nothing beats the feeling of having a mental light bulb come on after weeks of studying a single topic. I am a serial student – both figuratively and literally. I am constantly trying to learn something new, whether it is a new physical activity, such as conquering a new obstacle course or bouldering wall, a new topic at school, such as learning the foundations of entrepreneurship, or a new function at work, such as becoming the administrator for my division’s SharePoint sites. Coming from a high school with 82 girls in my grade and playing on a tennis team, I thrive in working in small groups. I love working with another person towards the same goal, whether it is to complete a project on time or win a tennis match. Working closely with others has sharpened my interpersonal skills, specifically communicating with others and reading other people’s reactions. I love to listen to what others say and do not say.
