ABOUT ERICA ANSTEY

Dr. Erica Anstey (she/her) is a Health Scientist in the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (DNPAO) at the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Anstey received her PhD in public health from the University of South Florida in Tampa, has a master’s degree in women’s studies, and is a certified lactation counselor (CLC). She started at CDC in the Nutrition Branch in 2014, first as an ORISE fellow and then as a contractor with McKing Consulting, where she worked on the Maternal, Infant, and Toddler Nutrition (MITN) team as a breastfeeding subject matter expert translating research into guidance. While on the MITN team she led the development of a range of products and web content, worked on the Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC) survey, and studied surveillance data to track breastfeeding disparities. In 2023, Dr. Anstey joined the Program Development and Evaluation Branch (PDEB), where she supports 6 funded programs focused on increasing healthy eating and active living to advance the nation’s chronic disease prevention and health promotion efforts. In this role, Dr. Anstey serves as a Project Officer, supporting state and local health departments, tribes, universities, and community-based organizations with the technical, scientific, and programmatic aspects of their cooperative agreements. A primary focus of these programs is to address racial and ethnic health disparities among populations with the highest burden of chronic disease. Dr. Anstey’s has a passion for maternal and child health issues, including access to optimal nutrition, beginning with breastfeeding. She also has an interest in improving support and guidance for infant and young child feeding in emergencies and she’s committed to centering racial equity and gender diversity at the core of all her work.
