ABOUT ERIC SEMPELS

As a member of TST Energy Systems’ recommissioning team, I apply my skills daily to reduce Canada’s carbon emissions and energy use. My 5 years’ experience leading high caliber research on energy conversion, renewable energies, and thermal transport contributes to TST’s mission of achieving durable solutions for people and the environment. My passion for renewable energies and energy efficiency started when I was young, as I grew up on a completely off the grid, solar powered, farm. This gives me a unique perspective on the balance between the comfort of individuals, their energy consumption, and our environmental impact. This passion can be seen throughout my projects including: Designing a solar powered utility vehicle for Africa Designing and implementing a 2kW off-grid solar system Completing a thesis on converting waste heat to electricity in industrial applications. During my years as a lecturer, I have demonstrated deep knowledge of energy systems and energy conversion by: Developing single-handedly a new course on energy systems optimization, approved by the CEAB Participating in the development of a course on renewable energies Lecturing on thermodynamics and energy system optimization My strive for excellence is clearly demonstrated by my achievements resulting in: 6 scholarships ($134 4 mentions of excellence for academic performance (GPA 3.92/4.00), leadership and social contribution Gold medal from the Canadian society for Mechanical Engineering Unanimous approval of my thesis without modifications Areas of focus: Energy efficiency – Energy audits – Energy transition – Carbon neutrality – Recommissioning – Environmental certification – LEED – BOMA BEST Thank you for taking the time to visit my profile.
