Dr. Eric Pooser is a Senior Research Scientist at the Advanced Concepts Laboratory, part of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). He has made significant contributions to Department of Defense (DoD)-sponsored programs, notably spearheading the development of the Sourcing and Attribution with Machine Learning (SAW-ML) pipeline. This semi-automated pipeline is proficient in processing multi-dimensional analytical chemistry data generated from optical spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis techniques. By applying advanced feature engineering, the pipeline extracts meaningful physical observables, which are then integrated into modern, contemporary, and novel machine learning (ML) algorithms. The resulting ML models are adept at classifying analytes of interest according to specific classification systems, such as determining the manufacturing origin of smokeless powders or the expression system of highly purified recombinant proteins. Before joining GTRI, Dr. Pooser was a postdoctoral fellow at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. In this role, he supported electronuclear and photonuclear experiments, with a particular focus on both triggered and streaming data acquisition systems. Additionally, he was involved in the design, simulation, fabrication, and deployment of detectors, contributing to the advancement of experimental nuclear physics instrumentation.
