About Eric Patterson

Eric D. Patterson, Ph.D. is an international relations expert whose work focuses on foreign and national security policy with a focus on democracy, human liberty, and the ethics of conflict. He earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara; an MS in International Politics from the University of Wales at Aberystwyth, and baccalaureate degrees in Biblical Studies and Music from Evangel University. Prior to coming to VOC he spent five years as executive vice president and later president of RFI. He serves as scholar-at-large (research professor) and past dean (20••••18) of the Senator A. Willis Robertson School of Government at Regent University; he is also Research Fellow at Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, & World Affairs, where he previously served full-time as associate director. His government experience includes service at the State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs and over twenty years as an Air National Guard commander. He was appointed as a White House Fellow in 2007 and assigned to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. He is the author or editor of over 20 books, including Just American Wars and Politics in a Religious World: Toward a Religiously Literate U.S. Foreign Policy. His commentary has appeared in The Washington Post, First Things, The Washington Times, and Orange County Register, among many others. His academic articles have been published in numerous journals such as Survival, International Politics, International Relations, Foreign Policy Journal, and International Journal of Intelligence and Counterintelligence.
