The Director of Publications and Special Projects is responsible for upholding the quality of the University of Bridgeport’s strategic communication directed at alumni and other external stakeholders. They achieve this by writing, editing, and reviewing all Advancement communications, primarily all editions of the University’s magazine, Knightlines, and related materials such as alumni profiles, documentary videos, and articles. Responsibilities include overseeing content creation and dissemination, aligning publications with strategic goals, and managing editorial processes in external-facing communications such as the website, proposals, and brochures. The Director will also assist and advise the Vice President of Innovation, Strategy, and Advancement on strategic initiatives, communications, and other institutional development decisions. The role also includes chairing the Centennial Committee, supervising the historical resources at the university, and creating, editing, or managing other university content and communications as needed.

ABOUT ERIC LEHMAN

I have over 20 years of experience in higher education at the university level in administration and as instructor, lecturer, and tenured Associate Professor of English. I also have over 15 years of experience in writing, editing, and copyediting at multiple levels for private individuals, companies, and institutions. As Director of Publications and Special Projects at the University of Bridgeport, I write articles, letters, speeches, proposals, the strategic plan, and other content for the president, provost, communications, advancement, and other leaders and departments. I also write, edit, and project manage the alumni magazine and the multi-year Centennial celebrations. I have superior written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work quickly and adapt to new rhetorical situations, and a firm commitment to creative problem-solving.I am also the author or editor of 23 books and my essays, articles, reviews, and stories have been published in dozens of journals and magazines, such as Appalachia, Connecticut Explored, Phi Kappa Phi Forum, and Connecticut Magazine. I am a regular writer for Estuary Magazine and I serve as associate editor for Nexus. My books include New England Nature, Homegrown Terror: Benedict Arnold and the Burning of New London, and A History of Connecticut Food. My biography Becoming Tom Thumb: Charles Stratton, P.T. Barnum, and the Dawn of American Celebrity won the Henry Russell Hitchcock Award from the Victorian Society in America and was chosen by the American Library Association as one of the best university press books of the year. My novella Shadows of Paris was a finalist for the Connecticut Book Award, won a silver medal for Romance from Foreword Review, and won novella of the year from the Indie Book Awards. In my capacity as an author I have 17 years of experience giving almost 300 professional presentations to external companies and institutions, and have appeared on more than 50 radio shows and television episodes on WNPR, WMRD/WLIS, WPKN, WATR, WQUN, WICC, and WTNH. I have collaborated on projects with Yankee Magazine, Globe Pequot Press, Homebound Publications, Yale\'s Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, the Bridgeport History Center, the Barnum Museum, and the State of Connecticut. I have been consulted and quoted by the History Channel, the BBC, Deutsche Presse, The Wall Street Journal, and the Atlantic Monthly.
