Joined this ongoing, long-term project for an interim, ‘immersion’ type of career-broadening assignment focused on learning, first-hand, the best ways and means of successfully executing a large-scale nuclear Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) project.Embedded in the Operation Programs Management (OPM) group within the Programs and Assurance (P&A) organization of the project structure I qualified as a Radiation Protection Worker, Level II, to augment my activities in Contaminated Areas.Unperturbed by the site conditions, I conducted all types of inspections, under all weather conditions, in all areas of the facility; contaminated or not. This provided me with a full understanding of the scope of work, the strategy for the sequence of demolition, and the methods for dismantling the large pieces of equipment and the voluminous process buildings in a Safe, timeous, and economical manner.
