About Eric Meier
Eric Meier is the Supervisor of Planning Model Administration at ERCOT. He works across the grid operations and transmission planning domains with experience in transmission planning, grid modeling and simulation, Common Information Model (CIM) integration, software development, and leading engineering teams. His team focuses on building steady state, short circuit, geomagnetic disturbance models, and collecting the data needed for grid simulations of the Texas Interconnection. In past roles he also managed the administration of ERCOTs operations modeling platform. His recent work has focused on large load integration both at ERCOT and through industry efforts. He is the chair of NERCs Large Load Working Group where he has contributed to the white papers and reports, the vice-chair of Standards Association Data Center Needs Analysis and Recommendations activity, and participates in large load efforts at ESIG and CIGRE. He also participated in the drafting of the Open Compute Projects Power Distribution Subproject Rev1 report for LVDC data center power distribution system specs. In service to the broader engineering community Eric also serves on advisory boards for the Texas State Electrical Engineering, and Bismarck State College Electrical Transmission Systems Technology programs advising on the curriculums and workforce needs. He is an senior member, CIGRE member, and an active volunteer.Eric earned a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and he is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. He’s interested in energy systems integration to better plan and optimize the nations energy system while integrating vast amounts of renewable energy, developing integrated national transmission systems, advancing grid simulation tools, planning for high impact low frequency events, designing data centers and meeting the demand of new load growth, and how to build high performing teams. If you want to chat, send me a LinkedIn message.
