ABOUT EDWARD PETERS
Currently Professor and Chair of an Epidemiology Department at the UNMC College of Public Health. Before was at the LSU School of Public Health for 17 years as a professor, center director, and chair.Has combined training in epidemiology methods, cancer, and molecular epidemiology, with interests in cancer etiology, prevention, and control. Also dabbles in dentistry, oral medicine, dental public health, and biostatistics. Before LSU had 14 years of research, teaching and progressive leadership experience in Harvard’s academic medical center environment, an NCI-designated cancer center and a school of public health with teaching and research focus on gene-environment interactions and the molecular epidemiology of cancer etiology, prevention, and control. I have a track record of leading team science and collaboration with researchers at multiple institutions and universities, including Harvard University, Brown University, Partners Healthcare System, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, University of Southern California, Louisiana Public Health Institute, Columbia University, Louisiana Oral Health Program, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the National Program of Cancer Registries of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Demonstrated leadership in team building, nurturing developing programs, and mentoring junior faculty. A passionate interest in using epidemiology as a tool to foster translational research.
