ABOUT LEE HOWARD

Winner of the 2009 Theodore Driscoll Award for Investigative Reporting, Lee Howard also contributed his reporting expertise to \"Who Stole the American Dream,\"​ the 2012 book by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author Hedrick Smith. Howard, a college journalism teacher, previously was interviewed for Jeff Benedict\'s book \"Little Pink House,\"​ which cited his early reporting in what turned out to be the landmark Kelo eminent domain case. Howard won a national prize from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers in 2010 for a series of stories about the abuse of H-1B visas that was cited on CNN. In a 10-year period between 2010 and 2019, he won the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists\'​ top prize for business writing five times and also was granted a fellowship by the National Press Foundation. In 2013, he won top prize for spot news writing. Winner of more than four dozen other awards, including top prize in New England in the category of Combatting Misinformation and Restoring Trust in 2024, and first in Connecticut for column writing and feature series. Howard has a master of science degree from Quinnipiac University and currently serves as acting managing editor for Shore Publishing, which produces five weekly newspapers and has a staff of eight.Howard\'s career highlights include launching seven new weekly newspapers and serving as managing editor for as many as nine weeklies. He also edited a daily Sunday-circulation paper that at one time was the fastest-growing Sunday paper in New England; launched and edited a full-color Sunday consumer magazine, and was named Journalist of the Year by the United States Tennis Association\'s New England chapter. The newspapers he launched became the top chain of weeklies in Connecticut in only three years\' time, judged by the number of awards won in the annual Society of Professional Journalists contest. The papers also took home four national prizes and three New England awards in that time. Howard as a sidelight wrote and produced the nonprofit East Side Zombies project in southeastern Connecticut that integrated people on the autism spectrum into movie-making. He has taught journalism at Connecticut College, UConn-Storrs and Mitchell College, lectured at UConn-Avery Point, University of New Haven extension, the Connecticut Authors and Publishers Association, the Southeastern CT Chapter of SCORE and New London Rotary, and has hosted the podcast \"Recorded History.\"
