ABOUT ENAKSHI GANGULY

I am a development researcher, writer, and human rights activist with over four decades of experience working at the intersections of children’s rights, gender justice, and social equity.I am the Co-founder and former Co-director of HAQ: Centre for Child Rights, and currently serve as Executive Director of the Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN), India, and Honorary Professor at the National Law University, Odisha.I began with the Indian Social Institute in 1985, was Deputy Director of Multiple Action Research Group (MARG), and Executive Director of Mobile Creches-India, and Programme Officer at Population Council- all before Co Founding HAQ.From Aug 2020- to June 2021 I had the privilege of working on 23 countries spread across South and Southeast Asia, and MENA for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, SURGE project. My work bridges research, advocacy, and policy — ensuring that rights are not only recognised but realised. I have led and collaborated on numerous national and international research and policy initiatives, from child rights and displacement to gender and governance. In 2003, I was honoured with the Ashoka Fellowship for HAQ’s pioneering work on child rights, received the Juvenile Justice Across Borders Award on behalf of Coalition of Indian NGOs advocating against the regressive changes to India’s juvenile justice law in 2015; have been featured in Womankind: Faces of Change Around the World, delivered a TEDx Talk on children’s rights in 2016, a Salzburg Seminar (now Salzbur Global)Alumna (1994) and was named an Inspiring Alumna of Miranda House in 2023.Driven by a belief that rights must be lived realities, I continue to mentor young practitioners and collaborate with partners worldwide to advance justice, inclusion, and dignity for all.You can read my articles on enakshiganguly.wordpress.com#Child Rights #Human Rights #Gender Justice #Development Policy #Social Inclusion #Housing Rights #Advocacy #Research Leadership #NGO Management #Governance #Equity
