ABOUT EMRAH ATASOY

I am currently an IASH Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh between January 2026 and July 2026 to work on my research project Archiving Futures: Utopia, Dystopia, Environmental Crisis, Identity, and Inequality in Edinburgh’s Special Collections (Host Academic: Prof Mathias Thaler, School of Social and Political Science). I am an Honorary Research Fellow and Associate Fellow at the University of Warwick. Previously, I was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow (EUTOPIA-SIF Cofund) at Warwick\'s Institute of Advanced Study and the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies (Sept 2022-24), conducting interdisciplinary research. I hold a BA and PhD (Joint) in English Language and Literature from Hacettepe University, Türkiye. With over a decade of academic experience, I am a certified Digital Humanities practitioner (Warwick), an Associate Professor of English Language and Literature (Türkiye, 2022), and an Advance HE Fellow (FHEA). My research spans futuristic and climate narratives, environmental humanities, critical futures studies, utopian and dystopian studies, digital humanities, interdisciplinary research, medical humanities, public humanities, speculative fiction, welfare and social inclusion, social engineering, sustainability, and contemporary Anglophone and Turkish literature, media, and culture.My monograph, Epistemological Warfare and Hope in Critical Dystopia, was published in 2021. I co-edited Utopian and Dystopian Explorations of Pandemics and Ecological Breakdown: Entangled Futurities (Routledge Environmental Humanities July 2024) and the critical forum \"Cultural Encounters and Textual Speculations in the Mediterranean,\" Utopian Studies (2024). My work appeared in journals like Utopian Studies, Science Fiction Studies, Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction, and Studies in the Novel. I am committed to public scholarship and engage in outreach through talks at institutions such as The British Academy (January 2025) and the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, Manchester (July 2023).I won funding and fellowships from & such as Edinburgh University\'s IASH Research Fellowship, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship, The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and TUBITAK. My academic experience includes visiting fellowships at Harvard University (2024), Pompeu Fabra University-Barcelona (2023), the University of Oxford (2021–2022), and Penn State University (2015–2016).
