About Emmy Ruiz
Emmy serves as an Assistant to the President and the Director of the Office of Political Strategy & Outreach. She was recently promoted to Senior Advisor to the President. Making her the youngest senior advisor this term. Emmy is a nationally recognized operative within progressive politics and works on issue advocacy, electoral, and independent expenditure efforts. For almost two decades, Emmy has focused on empowering women & girls, Latinos, and young voters by leading successful campaigns. Through her work, she has successfully built winning campaigns from the ground-up focused on voter registration and mobilization with a special emphasis on mobilizing underrepresented communities. During the 2008 general election, she served as the Young Democrats of America’s field director. For her work during the 2008 cycle, she was named the American Association of Political Consultant\'s Rookie of the Year award. In 2010, Emmy advised USAID’s Yes Youth Can effort focused on registering & mobilizing young voters in Kenya in the lead up to their presidential elections. Whether as Political Director at Annie’s List or as an advisor for Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, she’s worked on empowering women at every step. In 2012, she served as the Nevada General Election Director for Obama for America. During the 2016 cycle, she served as State Director for Hillary for America for multiple states. She managed the Nevada caucus efforts and secured the first significant win of the primary, with a 5%+ margin and delegate majority. She also supported the Washington caucus and Ohio primary efforts. She then successfully oversaw the general election efforts in Colorado, including the coordinated campaign supporting US Senator Michael Bennet’s re-election. With a 4.9% margin of victory, Colorado was one of four battleground victories in 2016. Immediately following the 2016 election, Emmy worked to elect Labor Secretary Tom Perez to Democratic Party National Chair and later served as a Senior Advisor to the Democratic National Committee. During the 2018 midterms and 2020 elections, Emmy focused on issue advocacy, mentoring candidates, and independent expenditure activities. In 2019, she co-founded NEWCO Strategies.
