About Emmy van Witzenburg
I’m a recent graduate from the University of San Diego with a degree in sustainable engineering and a minor in math, currently working as a civil engineer in Tetra Tech’s Infrastructure Engineering & Water (IEW) unit. I support the design of water and wastewater treatment systems, particularly PFAS treatment, helping to improve water quality and protect public health in communities across Orange County.Throughout my academic and early professional experience, I’ve developed a strong foundation in sustainable design, technical communication, and collaborative problem-solving. I gained industry experience during an internship as a renewable energy engineer, where I contributed to clean energy solutions and deepened my understanding of environmentally responsible design practices. A semester abroad at the University of Technology Sydney further expanded my interests in environmental engineering as well, giving me exposure to renewable energy modeling and site remediation planning.I’m passionate about advancing sustainable infrastructure and contributing to solutions that have a lasting environmental and community impact.

I’m excited to begin my role as an entry-level civil engineer at Tetra Tech within the Infrastructure Engineering & Water (IEW) unit. I support the design and development of local water and wastewater treatment plant projects in Orange County, with a focus on PFAS treatment systems using ion exchange (IX) and granular activated carbon (GAC) technologies.I assist in preparing engineering drawings and construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit, including plan views, sections, and detailed layouts. I also support the design of site plans, piping layouts, equipment arrangements, and other key civil and process components. I work closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver accurate, well coordinated design packages that support critical infrastructure improvements. This work plays a key role in advancing environmentally focused water treatment solutions that help protect public health and enhance water quality throughout the region.I am looking forward to growing my technical skills and contributing to meaningful environmental solutions in my community!
