25cent Freeze-cups. At the time, it was just a way to make ends meet and connections happen. Today, it\'s a fond memory and has served me many life lessons. I shared some of this recently with a few people and thought I’d share with you all now too. Many may not know, but I grew up in very humble means. Most of my childhood, I lived in the projects. We didn’t have much but I learned how to make the most of what you have, connect, and help each other. There’s an old saying that “It takes a village to raise a child”. Most summers, I stayed with my grandma in a little neighborhood in NLR, AR called “Dixie”. My grandma, rest in grace Louise Rhodes, would sell Freeze-cups from her home (frozen Kool-Aid in a cup) for 25cents. My grandma wasn’t an educated woman by traditional standards. As a child, she had to drop out of school and work. She never even learned how to read. What she did have though was the knowledge of treating people equitably and with love. She connected with people. She fostered a culture of connecting with others. She was known in the neighborhood as Mrs. Rhodes… or “The Freeze-cup Lady”. During the day, the door stayed unlocked. Anyone could knock on the screen door and walk right in. They’d say hi, drop a quarter in the brown jar, get their Freeze-cup and catch-up for a bit. Sometimes they’d even hang out on the porch and talk with their friends while they ate their Freeze-cups. It was simple.Sometimes we (self-included) overthink connecting. Even here on LinkedIn. I do know that I want to make meaningful connections with people, learn more, and share a little bit “About” who I really am. It’s simple. Connection. Family, friends, colleagues, co-workers, etc. Catch-up for a bit. I’ve known some of you for many years but others we’ve just recently connected. Either way, thanks for connecting with me. Let’s stay in touch. We can catch-up virtually, on the phone, over coffee/tea… or maybe even a Freeze-cup. Be Amazing! Emmily

   Founded a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to provide local community support for children in need of clothing.
