About Emma Cox

I am an undergraduate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with a strong interest in pursuing a career in medicine. I am especially drawn to patient-centered care and the way science, compassion, and communication come together to improve lives. What motivates me most is the opportunity to combine rigorous scientific training with meaningful human connection.Academically, I maintain a 4.00 GPA and have been recognized on the Dean’s List for three semesters. Beyond the classroom, I have pursued hands-on research and clinical exposure, including presenting my research on microplastic accumulation in fish at the Southeastern Fishes Council, where I earned the Boschung Student Travel Award. I have also completed over 200 hours of physician shadowing across multiple specialties, including internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, cardiology, and oncology, which has given me a broad understanding of healthcare delivery and strengthened my commitment to medicine. My involvement in leadership and service has been equally important to my growth. As Recruitment Chair for Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, I support outreach and member engagement while helping guide two recruitment cycles. I also volunteer with Clinic Vols in Knoxville and previously served in Labor and Delivery at Erlanger Baroness Hospital, where I assisted nursing staff and supported patient care. Through Chi Omega and other campus organizations, I continue to seek opportunities to lead, serve, and build meaningful relationships. What sets me apart is my reliability, work ethic, and ability to thrive in both team-based and high-pressure environments. Whether managing long shifts in customer-facing roles, organizing medical records in a pediatric clinic, or collaborating with healthcare professionals and peers, I bring the same dedication, curiosity, and people-first mindset.I am always eager to learn from mentors in healthcare and research and to continue gaining hands-on experience as I prepare for medical school and a future in patient care.
