ABOUT EMMANUEL ACKOM

Emmanuel is an Asst. Prof. at Univ. of North Alabama, USA. He has been an Adj. Prof. at UBC, Canada, since 2018. He earned his PhD in Environment and Resource Management from BTU, Germany. He has over 20 years professional experience in academia and the United Nations. He has travelled to over 47 countries and held duty posts in 3 continents.He was a Senior Energy and Climate Expert at UNEP\'s Copenhagen Climate Centre for 11 years where he directed many portfolios including the Global Network on Energy for Sustainable Development (GNESD) and its Policy Dialogue Fora (PDF). This resulted in enhanced energy policies in Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, India, Thailand, Brazil and Argentina for productive use by the poor. He led several Climate Transparency capacity building (CBIT & ICAT) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) initiatives in Africa and Asia.Impact of his work includes, for example (not least)- supported the UN and led development of Low Carbon Development Policies in Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, eSwatini, Botswana, Tanzania, Jordan, Thailand, Philippines, Azerbaijan etc- technical advisory support to Ghana\'s renewable energy policy paper which became Ghana Renewable Energy Law in 2011, following parliamentary approval- technical advisory support to establish the Universities of Energy and Natural Resources and Health-Allied Sciences, both in Ghana.He is an expert member of UNECA. Emmanuel is an external reviewer for energy proposals submitted to the governments of Sweden and The Netherlands for funding. He provides technical review work to IEA, IRENA, World Bank\'s reports. He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and subsequently Research Associate at the University of British Columbia for 5 years in Canada. He coordinated the IEA Bioenergy Task 39 from 20••••10 in Canada and was responsible for 14 member centres and countries within the network. Emmanuel\'s research focuses at the intersection of Technology, Society, and the Environment. He is Associate Editor for Int. Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management and editorial board member of Carbon Management Journal. He is invited to deliver keynote talks at the IEA Event -United Nations Climate Meeting COP21 (Paris/France); IRENA Event (Abu Dhabi); Royal Academy of Open Sciences (Brussels/Belgium).Emmanuel provides guest lectures to Universities in Africa, Europe and North America.
