First engineering hire and 4th employee (including the 2 founders) at an early stage health tech startup working to deliver personalised care at population scale.Initial friends/family pilot mobile app in users\' hands < 6 weeks after starting (including time for us to work out what the product should be) via closed app store release on Android/iOS (built using TypeScript and ReactNative).Primarily focusing on the backend for subsequent external pilots (now in the public app store), in particular owning development of the clinical parts of the system. I\'ve developed a DSL to express clinical care pathways, as well as a clinical engine to run them, and an EHR (Electronic Health Record) for storing patient data (built using Python and Django).Additional work on system architecture, infrastructure, testing and observability - as well as product design and direction decisions and recruitment.

Staff software engineer with strong skills/experience in both tech lead/line manager and individual contributor roles. I’ve worked with regulated medical devices, surgical robotics, cloud computing, internal tools, full stack web apps, data processing pipelines, mobile apps, desktop GUI applications, manufacturing/automation, telecoms and computer networking. I particularly enjoy working in rapidly growing start-ups.My speciality is Python and AWS but I’ve had experience with a range of programming languages/technologies over the last 10 years and I’m always happy/quick to pick up new ones in order to use the right tool for the job.I’m passionate about crafting quality software that has a positive impact on people’s lives and enjoy learning new things about software and sharing that knowledge, both at work and outside of it - with hobby interests in machine learning and functional programming.
