ABOUT EMMA GILCHRIST
I\'ve always cared about protecting the public interest — keeping governments in check and ensuring citizens have a fair say in decisions that affect them. That\'s why I chose to become a journalist. After earning my degree in journalism, I reported on politics, the environment, corporate responsibility and how citizens can influence decision-makers for major newspapers and magazines. After five years in newsrooms, I moved over to the non-profit sector, leading the communications of one of Canada\'s most innovative and effective advocacy groups. For more than a decade, I\'ve merged my experience in journalism and the non-profit sector by founding The Narwhal, an award-winning non-profit online magazine that publishes in-depth and investigative journalism about Canada\'s natural world.
