About Emma Fowkes

Driven by a vision for a more compassionate and equitable future, I have spent most of my student career learning how I can contribute to community-centered social justice initiatives. Through my relationships with community leaders in Illinois and Colorado, I have learned an immense amount about the power of having difficult conversations and approaching systemic issues with attention to one\'s positionality. I have had the opportunity to engage in social impact work as a student, in both the technical and social sense, and as a leader. My experience starting a student organization at Colorado College strengthened my skills in collaborative decision-making, mobilizing people-power towards a common goal, and building relationships with diverse stakeholders. In this position, I also expanded my understanding of others\' lived experiences with the criminal legal system, as well as the procedural inner-workings of the system, which I hope to carry with me as I pursue a career in public interest law.
