ABOUT EMMA ARTHUR
Academic experience: I am a graduate of University College Dublin, achieving a first-class honours (1:1) in both my Bachelor of Music (2022) and Master of Musicology in Music and Culture (2023). My thesis, entitled ‘Art Music and Music Education in Convent Schools 18••••00: A Preliminary Survey of the Primary Sources’, was awarded the Alison Dunlop Graduate Prize by the Society for Musicology in Ireland in December 2023. In October 2023, I began a DPhil in Music at the University of Oxford, funded by the AHRC Open-Oxford-Cambridge Doctoral Training Partnership, Merton College and the Clarendon Fund. In addition to my research, I have served on the AHRC International Student Conference committee, and I am currently a co-convenor of the Graduate Research Colloquia at the Oxford Faculty of Music for the 2025-6 academic year. Teaching Experience: In 2022, I was appointed as a tutor and grading assistant at UCD School of Music. I taught several undergraduate modules, including ‘Writing about Music’, ‘Musicianship’ and ‘Music Culture and Society’. I also worked as a Teaching Assistant for ‘Music in Ireland’. Since 2024, I have been a Graduate Mentor in Music at Merton College, Oxford, providing individual support and guidance for undergraduate students. In May 2024, I completed the \'Preparation for Teaching and Learning at Oxford\' training, which qualifies me to lead undergraduate tutorials at Oxford. Performance Experience: During my four years at UCD, I received a UCD Choral Scholarship. I was part of several recording projects with the choir under Signum Records: Be All Merry (2020), Ireland You’re my Home [EP](2024) and James Joyce Chamber Music (2024). I was also the recruitment coordinator (20••••23), choir librarian (20••••23) and copy editor for the CD booklet of Chamber Music. I am currently a Postgraduate Choral Scholar at Merton College, Oxford. In addition to regular weekly services and performances, I have been a part of tours to Germany, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and Japan, as well as a BBC Radio 3 evensong broadcast with the Britten Sinfonia, and several recordings with Delphian Records: Gabriel Jackson’s A Christmas Story (2024), Orchestral Anthems Vol. 2 (2025), music by Edmund Rubbra (upcoming), Britten project (upcoming).In 2025, I was selected for CCI Studio, a professional training programme for emerging Irish choral singers directed by Eamonn Dougan. In August 2025, I was a member of the Charles Wood Singers, performing for two BBC radio broadcasts.
