My favorite elementary school recess game didn’t involve monkey bars or a kickball, just me, a friend, and one stand-alone question: “Why?” A statement was made and the only possible response was to ask why. “Recess is inside.” “Why?” “Because it’s snowing.” “Why?” “Because it’s winter.” “Why?” The game could go on forever, as could the mentality. This approach of curiosity has played a key role in my academic endeavors. Memorizing is not my method of choice, I function at my best when I understand the meaning behind the content and numbers I am working with. I have a deep desire to know why the economic and financial markets and models I study daily work the way they do, not just that they do in fact work in such a way. This commitment to deeper comprehension was necessary during my time as a college consultant intern. The same testing devices didn’t work for everyone. I had to discern each client’s unique trends so that I could best offer tools for their improvement. Efficient adaptation to unique scenarios is crucial in the business world I desire to enter. I seek a fast-paced, always-on-your-toes environment that puts my adaptive skills to the test. This became reality when our university Social Programming Board concert headliner pulled out at the last minute and I was tasked with rearranging the hospitality accommodations I had spent the month organizing within a matter of days. This kind of setting also became my constant for three months the past summer as I took on a serving position in the restaurant industry. With no prior serving experience, I was thrown into the calculated chaos and came out two weeks later as a trainer. Not only was I expected to provide personalized attention as I bounced between guests, but often I was detailing my moves and logic to a new hire. As I explore careers in finance, I am eager for a new challenge and the potential to learn and grow in the industry. Please feel free to reach out - I would love to connect.
