ABOUT WAEL NASR

As the SVP of TLD Villa, Wael oversees the development and implementation of gTLDs. His current work includes definition of a global-class corporate gTLD system with implementations in both the ASCII-based character set and other-languages IDN. Wael also works as the Senior Vice President of WiseDots, a Los Angeles-based TLD consulting firm. His recent work has been focused on Arabic Domain Name Systems technology. He is on the Board of Directors of the Middle East DNS Forum. He founded the Arabic Group at the Multilingual Internet Consortium in Singapore and is the Co-founder and Vice Chairman of the Arabic Internet Group, chaired by King Abdullah of Jordan. His industry work includes: Arabic Internet Naming Consortium AINC was founded to facilitate internationalization of the Internet for all Arabic-speaking people of the world. Representatives of governments, ministries, non-governmental bodies, and diverse business interests participate in this consortium. Egypt Ministry of Telecom Wael worked with Dr. Tarek Kamel to implement the “dot Egypt” TLD. This is one of the first IDN ccTLDs implemented worldwide and the first Arabic-language ccTLD. While engaged in this work, he organized conferences in Cairo to promote this Arabic-language DNS. Arabic Dot Com Initiative During this tenure of involvement in the Arabic Dot Com Initiative, Wael drafted the operations and marketing plans for an Arabic-language IDN and gTLD. United Nations ESCWA Wael was a Group Member at the United Nations ESCWA in Lebanon and the lead author of the first Request for Comments that were submitted to IETF (and are currently adopted worldwide by Arabic-language IDN registries). Wael is multilingual and speaks both English and Arabic fluently. He enjoys discussing the challenges and opportunities of the gTLD industry every morning with his colleagues, and with a good cup of coffee and a decade of industry experience close at hand.
