WORK HISTORY
Teen Youth Center Intern @Kingsbridge Heights Community Center
Bronx, NY, US
This fall, I began my practicum through Columbia University’s Master of Social Work program at Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) in the Bronx. Under the mentorship of KHCC’s dedicated social workers, I will be developing my clinical skills and learning the responsibilities of the profession, including serving as a mandated reporter and a leader of group therapy sessions.Within KHCC’s Teen Youth Program, I will facilitate psycho-education discussion groups that create space for young teenagers to explore meaningful and often challenging topics- such as autonomy, mental health, coping strategies, sexual identity, health and consent, systemic racism, societal expectations, and gender stereotypes. A central part of this role will also be ensuring that these groups remain safe, affirming spaces for trans, queer, non-binary, and neurodivergent youth within the community, which is something that was important to me.What excites me most about this opportunity is the chance to engage with young people whose energy, resilience, and openness are truly inspiring. I look forward to learning from them just as much as I hope to guide and support. This practicum represents a meaningful step in my growth as a future clinical social worker, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from, contribute to, and expand my perspectives at KHCC.
