ABOUT EMMA HOYE-FLAHERTY
Hello all!My name is Emma Hoye-Flaherty and I am a second-year student at the University of Connecticut at Storrs. I am pursuing a major in Physiology and Neurobiology and a double minor in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Political Science on the pre-medical track. In 2024, I graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden, MA, as a member of multiple honors societies and a recipient of the President’s Education Award. I am passionate about research and collaboration, two things that work hand in hand in the STEM field. For the past three summers, I have worked as a Research Intern in both the Keeler Lab and the Kelch Lab at UMass Medical School. I have enjoyed collaborating with other undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral associates, and many other faculty and staff to learn new laboratory skills and conduct experiments. I hope to continue working in research in the laboratory setting.With my interdisciplinary interests in both science and politics, I enjoy participating in political discourse and political research as well. I am interested in public policy relating to medical malpractice, patents, research, and biotechnology, as well as how education impacts political participation. I hope to pursue a career in geriatric medicine in the future, while maintaining a position in aging neuroscience and neurodegeneration research. The health and comfort of our elderly generation is paramount in creating an equitable society, where every generation can receive equal healthcare. I am looking to shadow a geriatrician in the near future, as well as work in an lab studying aging neuroscience or neurodegenerative disease. Don’t hesitate to reach out!
