ABOUT EMMA BLEACH
I am a Senior Lecturer in Animal Science teaching topics relating to physiology of reproduction and lactation in farmed animals and dairy production systems, with particular interest in optimising dairy-bred calf rearing systems. I have two main research themes. In one, I specialise in the physiology and endocrinology of reproduction, particularly in cattle and sheep but I am interested in the reproductive systems other species too. Much of my research has been focussed on female reproduction, particularly ovarian follicle development and the role of hormones in regulating the reproductive process. My other research theme is rearing systems for dairy-bred calves. This research has used quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate alternative systems from conventional milk-feeding of dairy replacements to cow-calf rearing systems, as an alternative. Recently, I have taken on the role of Course manager for the Post-Grad Ruminant Nutrition courses and also for the Diploma in Ruminant Nutrition at Harper Adams University.
