About Emma Aken
I’m a Multimedia Journalist at WRDE CoastTV News, the NBC affiliate serving the Delmarva Peninsula. Since joining the newsroom in July 2024, I’ve covered a wide range of stories — from breaking news and continued investigative reporting to spot news, development stories, and community-focused issues.In addition to reporting during the week, I currently serve as Weekend Anchor, producing and anchoring the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts on Saturdays and Sundays.Early in my role at CoastTV, I earned my FAA Part 107 certification, becoming a licensed remote pilot. This allows me to incorporate drone footage into my reporting and elevate storytelling through dynamic, multi-perspective visuals.I graduated from Penn State University in 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a minor in Business. While at Penn State, I was actively involved with Penn State Network News, gaining hands-on experience both behind the scenes and on air. My roles included studio crew member — operating cameras, teleprompter, audio, and graphics — as well as field reporter, news anchor, and entertainment anchor. I also spent two years with CommRadio, further developing my broadcast writing and storytelling skills.Beyond journalism, I was an active member of Sigma Delta Tau and participated in several philanthropic initiatives, including THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. I also fulfilled a lifelong goal by studying abroad in Florence, Italy — an experience that broadened my cultural perspective and deepened my appreciation for storytelling on a global scale.Originally from Rochester, New York, I enjoy traveling and spending time with friends and family. I’m passionate about journalism and believe strong storytelling is essential to informing the public, amplifying voices, and creating meaningful connections.
