ABOUT EMILY SHIPP

I’ve had a varied career and been fortunate enough to benefit from opportunities as they have arisen. So what makes me thrive? People: I love working as part of a team and helping people realise and reach their potential. This began as a desire to help my friends and colleagues learn a new skill, to a career in training before I became a manager where I would empower and support my team, taking joy from watching their growth and successes. Technology: I seem to have a knack for being able to digest complicated information and explain it to others in a way that makes sense. I find how technology works intriguing, I don’t think I’ll ever grasp the intricacies of how coding works but I always want to understand more than I need to. Technology impacts our daily lives and the blood, sweat and tears that you pour into a systems project to finally be ready to mobilise; to see in reality just how much that change will impact the end user, it all becomes worth it. Then the continuous improvement begins and you keep iterating so you get that bit closer to perfection. Organisation: Okay so I’m organised, probably at times too organised! At first I thought I had a logical and methodical brain but actually the more I maximised this skill the more benefits I got as it translated into project management. Thinking of spinning plates, how many can you keep up and the same time, which one needs your attention at that moment and how do you determine which to prioritise? I’ve delivered so many projects of varying scale and complication over the years and every time it takes a different approach and teamwork. It’s a puzzle that I will forever be engaged in trying to solve.
