ABOUT EMILY CARVALHO
I am passionate about biomaterial and biomedical initiatives aimed at enhancing human health and well-being.In the fall of 2018, I began my PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, where I joined the Kumar Lab and started researching at the intersection of cell biology and materials science. My work focused on designing novel hyaluronic acid hydrogels to investigate glioblastoma invasion, while honing my expertise in advanced techniques such as rheology, device design, live cell confocal microscopy, and next-generation RNA sequencing. I further refined my skills in image analysis using Imaris and ImageJ, and in data analysis with R, Prism, and Excel macros. Throughout my academic journey, I have had the privilege of mentoring 11 students across undergraduate, master’s, and PhD levels.
