ABOUT EMILY VICTORIA CARSON
Emily is currently consulting on programme impact and advocacy impact in the realms of global health and HIV. She is formally the Programme Impact Specialist at ICASO. She is also the former Youth Program Coordinator for the International AIDS Conference as well as the Former North American Regional Focal Point for the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS and a founding member of the HIV Young Leaders Fund Steering Committee. She began working in the HIV and human rights field 17 years ago, starting with developing and implementing an awareness based educational program for her peers. This led to a position on a Board of Directors representing the Youth Voice regarding involvement and programming in HIV. She moved from that to work internationally with local organizations focusing on the social impact of HIV/AIDS, LGBTQ realities, Harm Reduction and Sex Work at the community level in Costa Rica, USA, Canada, Nicaragua and India. Currently, she is working predominantly with issues surrounding community building, emergency humanitarian crisis and issues affecting people living with or affected by TB, Malaria or HIV, but she continues to remain committed to empowering youths with developing HIV awareness programs based on their communities and realities and having the opportunity for leadership. She holds a degree in Media and Journalism, specializing in photojournalism, and is passionate about traveling and the interplay of cultural anthropology and history of cuisines.
