ABOUT EMILY HUGO

I have worked in family law since May 2017. I started as a paralegal and qualified in March 2019. During this period I have assisted on UHNW financial matters (both MCA and Schedule 1) and run my own case load of financial and children matters. I have a client-focused approach with a particular interest in ADR as I foresee the use of this increasing due to the significant delays and costs associated with court proceedings. In addition to case work, I am passionate about the learning and development of junior team members as I believe they are the key to a department being as successful as possible. I am a team player, I always choose the best course of action based on what will be most beneficial for the client and the team, rather than myself personally. I pride myself on the level of client care I provide and the rapport I build with clients. I ensure that clients are regularly updated in relation to costs and will advise them if a commercial decision should be made. One of my favourite tasks is the initial financial disclosure process, namely completing the Form E, drafting the asset schedule (ES2) and drafting the questionnaire. Prior to working in family, I was a case handler for personal injury matters for 5 years. I worked for both Claimant and Defendant firms which gave me experience in running a large case load and assisted me in being able to see the same circumstances from different perspectives; an invaluable skill when trying to reach an agreement for a client.
