Experience

  1. Advisor, Grand Canyon Emergency Services

    National Park Service

Jan 2019 — Present · Grand Canyon Village, AZ, US

Serve as a behavior change advisor for Grand Canyon National Park\'s Preventive Search and Rescue (PSAR) program, the nation\'s leading proactive visitor safety effort. After completing a case study of the mini \"wicked problem\" of SARs at GRCA for my Master\'s thesis project, I had the opportunity to follow-up with Rangers there to socialize and implement the findings.I now serve as an informal advisor to the program on an ongoing basis, collaborating with the PSAR lead as new visitor trends and challenges emerge. In addition to having the opportunity to literally save lives, I\'ve also found it very rewarding to demonstrate a different way of thinking and approaching problems. The creative and solution-oriented nature of the design process has resonated deeply with many of the veteran Rangers I\'ve worked with.Based on the success of my work with GRCA, I was asked by the Chief Ranger of North Cascades National Park to conduct a similar project on visitor safety outcomes there.
