ABOUT EMILY TANNER-MCLEAN
I\'m a Seattle-based multimedia artist and cultural strategist whose career bridges contemporary art, public space, fundraising, and civic engagement. I earned a Bachelor\'s degree in Studio Arts (2005) and a Master of Public Administration in Cultural Policy Studies (2013) from New York University. My artistic practice spans installation, video, textile, and public art. My projects emphasize video as a non-cinematic material and explore the power of repetition in the dismantling of subject and context, foreground and background. I\'ve exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in and around Seattle. My public artwork \"Point of Origin, Tides\"(2022) is the first video piece acquired by the Port of Seattle for its permanent collection, and is located in Concourse C at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. In addition to my studio practice, I have held leadership roles in major civic and cultural infrastructure projects, helping to advance large-scale waterfront redevelopment initiatives including Waterfront Seattle and Governors Island Park, where I helped secured private and public funding for capital infrastructure, public art, and cultural programming. I currently sit on the Portwide Arts & Culture Board of the Port of Seattle, one the region’s largest supporters of artists via the commissioning of permanent and temporary artworks for aviation and maritime locations.
