As Outreach Executive for I work to expand student engagement and strengthen connections between and the broader engineering community. I coordinate outreach initiatives, promote events, and help create opportunities for students to get involved in technical and professional development activities. I build on my previous experience as DEI Chair, where I focused on fostering inclusion and accessibility within STEM spaces.
ABOUT EMILY TAMAYO FERNANDEZ
I am a first-year Electrical Engineering student at Penn State University and a Millennium Scholar, passionate about advancing technologies at the intersection of optics, photonics, and materials science. Currently, I work as an Undergraduate Researcher conducting hands-on experiments in optical systems and photonic structures, where I design experimental setups, analyze data, and model light propagation using computational tools. In Summer 2026, I will join the University of Florida’s Experimental and Computational Methods for Materials Discovery REU Program, where I will work on research involving optical spectroscopies of 2D layered crystals. Beyond research, I serve as the Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Chair for the Penn State Student Chapter, where I help organize outreach initiatives and technical workshops aimed at expanding opportunities in engineering for underrepresented students. My interests include: • Optical spectroscopy • Photonics and nanomaterials • Experimental physics and engineering • Materials discovery for next-generation technologies I am always excited to connect with students, researchers, and engineers interested in photonics, materials science, and emerging technologies.Let\'s connect and take it from there!
