About Emily Sturtevant

I began my teaching journey through Urban Teachers (UT), a four-year teacher residency program. During my time with UT, I spent my first year honing my skills as an educator through student teaching, graduate classes, and one-on-one mentorship before stepping into a lead teacher position for the past two years. In 2022, I graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Master\'s in the Science of Education. I am certified to teach elementary education and special education.

   Self-Contained Math Teacher: Designs purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that reflect the individual learning styles and IEP goals of all students. Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using formal and informal assessment, and then utilizes assessment data to rene curriculum and inform instructional practices to ensure student mastery of standards. Creates a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment that excites and motivates students to reach ambitious goals and uphold classroom expectations. Special Education Math Co-Teacher: Collaborate closely with lead teachers to ensure that instruction is appropriately scaffolded and accessible for students with disabilities. Modify activities and adapt materials to promote student success in the general education environment. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to assist special education and/or at-risk students in general education classes with lessons and assignments. IEP/Case Management: Encourages parental involvement in students\' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents about academic and behavioral progress. Collaborate in the development of IEP goals and objectives that address students’ needs and align with present levels.
