eMERGE is a national network organized and funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) that combines DNA biorepositories with electronic medical record (EMR) systems for large scale, high-throughput genetic research in support of implementing genomic medicine. My role focuses on the return of genome informed risk assessments (GIRAs) that integrate monogenic, polygenic, personal and family history into a comprehensive report. I conducted the 1:1 disclosure of over 300 high-risk reports to participants in an informative and empathetic manner. The Mass General Brigham Biobank is a large research program designed to help researchers understand how people’s health is affected by their genes, biomarkers, and other factors. By participating in the Mass General Brigham Biobank, you can help us better understand, treat, and even prevent the diseases that might affect your health and the health of future generations. My role involves curation of clinically actionable variants and the return of results to Biobank participants.
