    The Art and Design Experience – Promote strategies for student success. Organize guest speaker series, introducing students to a wide range of visual and cultural resources available on campus. Mentor a new teaching assistant each semester.Physical Structures and Concepts – Through discussion and implementation of a variety of design strategies, students explore the fundamental processes integral to design and creation. Process, materials, tools, construction, ideation, and creative problem solving are emphasized. Students cultivate technical skills, craftsmanship and the ability to be self-critical through the production of a variety of hands-on projects and participation in peer critique.Visual Structures and Concepts – Foster technical and critical thinking skills through the analysis of art history and cognitive perception applied to the creation of new work. Examine basic design, color theory and concepts of visual perception. Develop research skills through multimodal and collaborative activities.Social Structures and Concepts – Survey of methods and history of modern and contemporary art, including an introduction to institutional and art criticism. Explore the role of artists and designers within a larger culture focusing on the synthesis of the physical, visual, socio-cultural, historical, theoretical bases. Facilitate artistic research and critical thinking through discussions with focus on the functions of art and design emphasizing that context is crucial to interpretation and understanding. Coordinate a four-day class trip for sixty-five students to Milwaukee and Chicago to visit cultural centers, museums and artist studios.The Senior Exhibition – Promote and provide professional development assistance through the creation and editing of promotional materials, resumes and artistic statements. Lead students through exhibition theory, planning and design. Advise on artwork preparation and techniques for public display.
