About Emily Huang

Hello! My name is Emily. As my career progressed in healthcare, I was exposed to many systemic issues which drove me to want to cultivate change on a larger scale for my patients and clinicians. I have seized several leadership opportunities including launching an accelerated surgical recovery workflow and initiating a department education team.MY JOURNEY FROM PT TO UX I thrived in leadership roles, which led me to realize that I aspire to solve bigger problems. When resources were severely restricted during the pandemic, I spearheaded a protocol to safely and quickly discharge patients after surgeries. This new recovery pathway allowed surgeons to reopen operating rooms while the hospital conserved resources for COVID patients. I established a screening test to determine when a patient has physically recovered enough from their spinal anesthesia to initiate his/her physical therapy training. I served as the lead coordinator to physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing care teams to ensure all patients discharge requirements were met at maximal efficiency. This workflow is still in place post-pandemic to continue to optimize hospital resources and increase revenue.WHAT I CAN BRING TO YOUR TEAM Coming from the healthcare field, I bring a unique human perspective to the tech industry. I have a doctorate degree and work experience on the topics of humans and accessibility. The skills I had practiced as a physical therapist make me a better UX designer: empathizing with and advocating for my patients, evaluating patient’s pain points, thinking critically in a high-risk environment, designing individualized care plans, and communicating with different stakeholders. UX is the perfect role for me because I get to take parts of what I enjoyed most in my last role into an environment that is exhilarating.OUTSIDE OF WORK When I\'m not working, I love exploring new countries, creating travel videos, attending music festivals, camping in the Washington wilderness, and snuggling with Baer (my french bulldog pup)CONNECT I would love to connect if we share a common interest in health-tech!TOOLS Figma, Sketch, Miro, Google Suite, Marvel, Adobe Creative SuiteKEYWORDSAccessibility, User Experience, UX Design, Product Design, User Interface, Wireframing, Usability Testing, Visual Design, Prototyping, Information Architecture, Usability Testing, User Flows, Journey Mapping, Sketching, Design System
