Selected to participate into Cohort 7 of the New York State by Erie Niagara Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Scholars Program. AHEC Scholars is a two-year, statewide,\"hot spotting\" internship program that provides eligible students the opportunity to take part in an interdisciplinary team that seeks to improve the quality of life for individuals in medically underserved areas.AHEC Scholars collaborate with a local health center to proactively provide resources and support to high-need, high-cost patients in Erie and Niagara communities. Through collective efforts, AHEC Scholars aid in reducing the annual number of avoidable hospitalizations and emergency department visits.Additionally, AHEC Scholars expand their knowledge of healthcare disparities and the social, cultural, and financial barriers that prevent community healthcare needs from being met. All of the above, and more, will be accomplished with professionally networking with local healthcare centers and Didactic and Experiential Trainings.
