About Emily Dumas Winfree

I am a graduate from the University of Alabama with a Masters of Social Work. I also have a Masters of Public Health in Healthcare Organization and Policy through the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Graduation dates for both programs were August 2016. I am a licensed LICSW-S in Alabama. I have had the unique opportunity of transitioning from working as a floor medical social worker specializing in ENT, Oral Surgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery, and Vascular Surgery patients to working as a Manager of Care Transitions. I have been able to utilize what I learned on the floor to help me see the larger picture in how I can use the Emmi program to fill in gaps in care and better support our inpatient and ambulatory care teams. My previous social work experiences lies within working with children with disabilities and their families. I enjoy working with exceptional children and helping their families navigate not only the field of education, but also the medical field and life in general. I have experiences working in a high school setting as a case manager. I provided behavioral interventions to the children in the classroom and aided their family\'s with IEPs, 504 Plans, and all other aspects of the school system. My other experiences are clinically based where I have worked in two collaborative settings for children on the autism spectrum and with other developmental delays and disorders. I have gained valuable insight and experience through various leadership rolls within The Junior League of Birmingham, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Phi Alpha Social Work Honors Society, and the Graduate Student Association. Being a leader in these exceptional organizations has taught me to better advocate for myself, my career, and my future endeavors. I most enjoyed my time as President of Phi Alpha Social Work Honors Society through our monthly fundraising campaigns and the Alan V. Kaufmann Symposium that was chartered under my tenure. I have enjoyed having the opportunity to work on several grant funded initiatives and hope to further pursue grant writing in the future.
