ABOUT EMILY DAWN FINCH PINEDA
Growing up in Los Angeles has provided me a unique opportunity - to see first hand the inequalities that exist in the US between classes, races, & genders. Ever since I can remember, I knew I wanted a career that helped society become more equal. As I grew older, I began to see education as a great equalizer. which explains where I am at currently, as well as my background. As I grew older, I also began to see that my skill set included providing counseling services. I have worked with families who come from a wide variety of backgrounds - but primarily urban. The main reason I went into counseling was to help urban adolescents create successful plans for life after high school. I saw too many teens get lost during their time in school & I saw this negatively affect their futures; I knew I had to do something about it. Becoming a school counselor (with a background in social services) seemed to be the best way for me to change these students\' lives. My work is primarily with first-generation students, including teenage parents. Specialties: Counseling, education, non-profit, teens
