About Emily Milligan

I am a Senior Director with the Compensation & Benefits practice at Alvarez & Marsal Tax in Denver. My primary area of expertise is retirement plan design, compliance, and administration, though I have enjoyed consulting on issues in all areas of the total rewards space over the last 10 years, such as compensation benchmarking, non-qualified deferred compensation program design, pay equity and transparency analyses, health and welfare plan issues, and payroll tax calculations. In recent years, M&A activity and challenging market conditions have driven clients to seek creative solutions to retain talent, maintain compliance, and re-align their programs with their organizational goals, and those have been some of my favorite projects. All aspects of retirement plan administration and compliance are in my wheelhouse, and I regularly assist clients with contribution calculations, corrections calculations, and nondiscrimination testing in addition to day-to-day questions and issues that arise. My focus on finding practical, compliant solutions is supported by years of hands-on experience and my technical expertise, which is demonstrated by my Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) and Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) certifications. In addition to working on retirement plan issues, I enjoy digging in and applying my background in applied mathematics and statistics to a data analysis problem - the more challenging, the better! I am our team\'s resident expert when it comes to modeling and forecasting, and regularly assist with pay equity analyses and cost modeling projects. As crazy as it sounds, I also have a passion for learning new, more efficient ways to approach problems in Excel and enjoy holding formal and informal Excel trainings for colleagues (as well as clients and anyone else who will listen). I received my bachelor’s degree is in Mathematical and Computer Sciences, concentrated in Statistics, and my master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. Before working at Alvarez & Marsal, I was an Associate with Compensation & Benefit Solutions.
