ABOUT EMILY BASSETT
I am a lifelong learner! I am a Classical Civilizations major and Italian minor from Boston University, an Olmsted Scholar through the University of Cadiz, Spain, a Nuclear Engineer and a Surface Warfare Officer for the US Navy. After command of the Navy\'s newest Littoral Combat Ship, USS MANCHESTER (LCS 14), I reported as the Reactor Officer in USS Gerald R Ford, CVN 78. Now, I used that experience to work on COMNAVAIRFOR\'s staff as the Force Nuclear Propulsion Officer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Now, I am fulfilling a lifelong goal, and I am serving in my DREAM job as the CO of the University of Washington\'s NRTOC unit. I am a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, a niece, a cousin, a neighbor, a friend and a citizen. I get strength from other leaders who share their stories and ideas with me. I love mentoring, being mentored and I love Lean In Circles. I founded a website that hangs monthly webinars called Lean On Navy. My biggest influence in my life is my mother, Dr. Henriette Klauser. I grew up by her side in coffee shops in Seattle doing my homework while she was writing her books,\"Writing on Both Sides of the Brain,\"\"Put Your Heart on Paper\" and \"Write it Down, Make it Happen.\" She taught me to love to learn.
