About Emilie Litsas
I started my career living in Istanbul, Turkey with a Boren language fellowship for one year post-college. In that time, I witnessed the rise of the refugee crisis. When I returned to the US, I taught English to refugees and learned about their experience in resettlement. I then joined Deloitte, where I helped design, build, and scale a refugee resettlement tool that reduced the time to resettle families by half and doubled the number of landlords willing to rent to refugees, supporting tens of thousands of new Americans with access to safe housing. Over the following three years, I pursued a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School (on scholarship as a Zuckerman Fellow) and an MBA from Dartmouth Tuck School of Business. During grad school, I worked with states and cities, startups and venture capital funds, to understand the question: how do we finance and scale social innovation? For two years, I collaborated with impact investing funds, investing in climate tech startups with Maine Venture Fund, and in racial justice community development projects with Boston Impact Initiative. I also worked in operator roles with start-ups; leading business development for a green ethylene technology coming out of an MIT lab, working with founders of a climate fintech startup, and a green workforce training startup (winning the MIT Media Lab pitch competition), and interning with MedRhythms, a Series B health tech start-up in product design and strategy. Since completing grad school, I’ve rejoined Deloitte and am writing the firm’s internal strategy for growing sustainability services over the next decade with particular attention to water resilience. Throughout my career, I’ve been motivated by a passion for applying human-centered design principles to challenge status quo and elevate shared prosperity. In my free time, I enjoy making ceramics, cooking and baking Mediterranean foods, hiking, and biking around Cambridge and Somerville.
